Skincare Routine for Summer Brides

A solid skincare routine is essential for all brides, no matter the time of year you’re getting married, but for summer brides there are certain additional elements to consider. Here are some tips on how to create a skin regimen for the hotter months of the year so that you can enjoy a dazzling glow on one of the most important days of your life!

Cleanse, tone, moisturize

This classic three-step regimen is already a winner when it comes to keeping your skin healthy in the summer. But when it comes to the warmer months, you might want to tweak this a little to match the change in the weather. Try and add a lighter moisturizer that allows your skin to breathe.

A pro tip is to ensure that you make these changes to your routine a long way ahead of your big day. Your skin might react to new products or approaches, and you don’t want to walk down the aisle with skin irritation that could have easily been avoided!

Sunscreen

We should all be protecting our skin against the harmful rays from the sun all year round, but this is especially important during the summer. The most important reason is to protect your skin health; however, it will also protect your appearance – an added bonus, particularly when all eyes will be on you on your wedding day!

You could switch to a moisturizer that has a high SPF or add a separate layer of sunscreen as an additional step to your usual routine. Put this on every morning regardless of how sunny it is at the time. You can then use a gentler night cream without SPF at bedtime.

Hydrate

There are two ways to hydrate skin. One is all about the products we apply externally. It’s good practice to use products that hydrate and moisturize no matter the time of year. And you can enhance hydration not only with face creams and body lotions but also by using deodorant. Look for a dermatologist-recommended deodorant that contains gentle ingredients like glycerin that pull in moisture from the air to help hydrate your skin. It will also help protect against odor during the sweaty summer months.

The other way we can hydrate our skin is from within. This involves taking plenty of fluids throughout the day, to help replenish moisture that we lose through sweating. Water really is a great option, as it helps keep dehydration at bay and keeps your skin, hair, and nails on point. You could also add water-rich food to your diet, like cucumber and watermelon to switch things up!

Bodycare

It’s not enough to just focus on the face. Your body needs an equal amount of attention in your summer skincare routine! You’ll want to apply sunscreen with SPF protection all over your body, not just on your face. Pay particular attention to those sensitive areas like the tops of your ears, shoulders, feet, and décolletage.

You might also want to include more regular hair removal sessions in your routine, if you choose to go down that path, or regular exfoliation to help buff away dead skin cells. A couple of times a week should be enough, as too much exfoliation can do more damage than good. There are also other body care treatments to try. As is always the case, if you’re trying out new treatments, do these well ahead of your wedding, so your skin has a chance to recover.
